Obituary of Hattie Northrup
It is with sad and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our Mom, HATTIE NORTHRUP, age 84, which occurred at her home in Fox Hill on October 11, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Hattie was predeceased by her husband Gerald in 2008. She was born in Belleisle Creek on June 21, 1931, a daughter to the late Robert and Mabel (McConnell) Ness.
Hattie knew the meaning of responsibility at an early age, losing both her Mom and Dad when she was a teenager. In the early years after her marriage to Gerald on April 5, 1952, Hattie cooked in the lumber camps for Gerald for a crew of 20 men.
Hattie dedicated her life to her family. She touched the hearts of all who knew her. She was always there, caring and sharing, always giving, ready and willing to lend a helping hand- a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.
Hattie was an active member of St. Paul’s United Church and attended every Sunday until her illness. Over the years she served as an Elder as well as Sunday School Superintendent. Hattie was an active volunteer in the community. She was on the Steering Committee that established the Sussex Sharing Club in 1986 and served as secretary for the Club for over 10 years. She continued to volunteer 2 days/week until Gerald’s illness in 2007.
Gardening was one of her passions and was evident to anyone driving by her home in Fox Hill. She was known as the "Pumpkin Babysitter" to her son Bill and Dawn’s giant pumpkins. She would open the little greenhouses on hot days and cover them at night when they were away. She loved every minute of it.
Hattie will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her daughters Mary Northrup and Michael Samson of Fox Hill, Tracy and David Baxendale of Fox Hill; her sons Mark and Pattie Northrup of Fox Hill, Brian Northrup and Lorraine Hourihan of Sussex Corner and Bill and Dawn Northrup of Fox Hill; grandchildren Callie Northrup, Bret, Jade and Reese Baxendale, Garret Folkins, Kayla and Alyssa Northrup; great grandson Kalob Pambrum; sister Mary and Howard Joynes of Collina; brothers Ray, Allan and Jack (Madeline) of Sussex. Hattie was predeceased by Brother Russell who was killed in action during WWII, Robert, Ronald, Edward and Donald.
A service celebrating Hattie’s life will be held from St. Paul’s Church on October 14, 2015 at 2 pm. A private family interment will take place following the service in St. Simon and St. Jude’s Cemetery, Belleisle Creek, NB. A reception will follow at the home of her daughter Mary and Michael in Fox Hill.
