It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother Pietie (Patricia) VAN DER LAAN, at the Sussex Health Centre, on October 16, 2015. She was the wife of Frank VAN DER LAAN of Hatfield Point, New Brunswick. Patty was born on September 17, 1938, in Brekkenpolder, The Netherlands, the daughter of the late Popke and Sijbrich (Mebius) Bakker. Patty was a gifted seamstress and well known for her amazing dressmaking and sewing skills. Always a perfectionist, her attention to detail was evident in countless wedding and graduation dresses; often created solely based on pictures or her own vision. Patty is survived by her husband Frank, three sons Jaap Sieger (Wil) of The Netherlands, Paul (Shelley) of Fredericton, NB, and Frankjan (Brenda) of Kingston, ON; grandchildren Joost, Luuk, Gijs, Anna, Eden, Mitch, Alex, Adam and Kate; three sisters, one of which is Annie (Bob) VAN DER LAAN of Norton, NB and three brothers. She is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visitation on Wednesday, from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, on Thursday, October 22, 2015, from Hatfield Point Baptist Church. A private family interment will follow in Bayview Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Bayview Cemetery, Canadian Cancer Society or the memorial of the donor’s choice.
