"Well, I always liked quilting. We used to have a group at the UCW. We quilted quilts for people and we made quilts and sold all sorts of crafty things. I learned to knit when I was probably about twelve or thirteen years old. My mother didn't knit, but I was anxious to learn so I used to go and stay with my great aunt Sadie White next door when her family was out in the evening. She didn't like to stay alone so she started me knitting just on two needles. I kept practicing and finally I got so I could knit on four needles. Then I wanted a skein of yarn so I could knit a pair of mittens for myself. That was my first project. And a skein of yarn at that time could be bought at the local store - a quarter pound skein of yarn for 50 cents. I knit mittens, socks and sweaters. I still knit and crochet and I send a lot of my knitting over to the Food Bank in Jemseg and the Salvation Army in Sussex."
