Obituary of Elva Orchard

It is with sadness that the family of Elva Orchard, 91, of Norton, NB, announces her death which occurred at Embassy Hall, Quispamsis, NB, on December 28, 2016. Born in Springfield, NB, on June 30, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Grace (Gamblin) Crawford. Mom graduated from Sussex High School in 1942. Following graduation she taught school on Snider Mountain, and worked in Price’s Store where she met her future husband, Bill Loughery. After losing Dad in 1969, Mom worked at Black’s Fashions in Sussex, Charm Jewelry Store, and the Sears Outlet at the Norton Mall. In 1984 we welcomed Ralph Orchard into our family. Mom and Ralph were married at Lynn’s home in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, on October 21, 1984. Ralph loved Mom and we loved Ralph! Elva was active in both the United & Baptist Church, and we attended the United Church in Norton, as a family. She loved to sit in the sun, enjoy her flowers, trips with Nancy’s Tours, and trips to Vancouver & the U.K. where Calee showed her all the sites. Elva cherished her friends, and will be sadly missed. Elva is survived by her son Bill Loughery and his wife Calee of Shediac, NB; sister Margaret "Peg" Swan of Old Town, ME; grandchildren: Rob Loughery and Troy (France) Chamberlain; great grandchildren Alex and Jake Chamberlain; nieces: Pat, Vicki, Karin, Sue and Heather; and nephews: Lance, Dougie and Steve. Besides her parents and Bill, Elva was predeceased by her second husband Ralph Orchard; infant son Jackie, daughter Lynn Crawford Chamberlain; sisters Vera Wilson and Una Slumski; and brother Herbie Crawford. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, where visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, on Monday, January 2, 2017 with the funeral service following at 2:00 pm. A private family interment will take place in the spring at Midland Cemetery. Donations in memory of Elva may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Red Cross or to the memorial of the donor’s choice.
