Obituary of Leslie Northrup
It is with sadness that the family of Leslie Eldon Northrup, age 65, of Henderson Settlement, NB, announces his death which occurred on Friday, March 31, 2017 at his home. Leslie was born in Sussex, NB, on March 28, 1952, the son of the late Eldon and Grace (Leeco) Northrup.
Leslie was a man of many talents. As a young man he worked at Canadian Tire, Saint John; Buchanan’s Esso, Saint John; worked in the woods using horses at the time to yard logs; Modern Cleaners contractor at the Port of Saint John; and C.J. Jones Cartage Ltd. Distributors for Atlantic Wholesalers, Saint John. He also at one point was self employed, hauling wood and gravel locally, and worked at JDI Woodlands and Sawmill Divisions, Sussex. Leslie learned from his father Eldon, the importance of recycling and reusing materials. He built his garage from wooden deer crates brought to Lower Cambridge from New Zealand. Leslie also travelled and trained many people during his work career at JDI, putting in over 25 years of work before his Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis.
Over the years he met many interesting people that returned any favours by attending fundraisers that were held for him. Leslie dealt with MS for quite some time, but would always tease and loved any story that ended in a good laugh. He made a trip to Rhode Island, USA for CCSVI treatment. This was a complete disappointment after a short time. He volunteered many times for the MS Society, and would give a helping hand to any neighbours in need regardless of what the task was.
Leslie appreciated all of the assistance given to him by Dr. Stackhouse, and the members of the Extra Mural team. The family thanks them for all of their care and compassion. Also, a special thank you, to the members of Home Care Plus Ltd. for the special angels that were sent to help Leslie with his personal care.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Ilean (Hovey) Northrup; daughters: Anastasia Northrup (Chris) of Rusagonis, NB, and Jennifer (Joe) Douthwright of Norton, NB; four grandchildren that he adored and nicknamed them as follows: Nicholas Northrup "Buckshot", Rowan Northrup "Angel", Lily Douthwright "Princess" and Maezie Douthwright "Buttons"; brothers: Ken (Anna), Wayne, James and Roger (Carol); sisters Linda and Bonny; as well as an aunt, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, where visitation will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017, from 3 to 6PM. A Celebration of Leslie’s life will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at 1:00PM from Sherwood’s Funeral Chapel. A private family interment will take place in the spring at Shannon Cemetery, Shannon, NB.
