Obituary of Bev Stevens
Beverley Charles Stevens BA, BEd, MEd. Husband of Margaret (Lawson) Stevens passed away at Kiwanis Nursing Home after a 14 year struggle with Alzheimer’s. He formerly resided in Springfield. Born February 23, 1947 in Studholm, Kings County, NB. He grew up in Coles Island, the son of Alice (Cook) Stevens and the late Rupert Stevens.
Bev was a teacher with the Province of New Brunswick for 36 years. First year at Chipman High School and thirty-five years at Belleisle Regional High School.
Bev had a passion for teaching young people and as a volunteer in his community. He spent countless hours with the Belleisle Valley Fire Department, LSD Parish of Springfield. Belleisle Valley Health Center, St. John Ambulance, NBTA District 19, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76, BRHS Outdoor Club, Camp Pascobac Inc., Canadian Student Leadership Conference and more.
He spent many late nights transporting students to and from sports events throughout the province and beyond. He travelled with the Belleisle Rugby Team on several trips to the USA and one trip to Europe. He travelled to Winnipeg for hockey and track and field as well as Newfoundland and British Columbia for youth leadership conferences. When he had some personal time, he loved playing hockey and golf, and taking care of his yard work.
Bev is survived by his wife Margaret, sons Andrew (Rachel) of Midland, Matthew (Kati) of Quispamsis, and daughter Leesha of Moncton. Grandchildren Noah, Alexis, Ebony-Mae and Willow. Mother Alice Stevens, brother Brian (Elizabeth) Stevens, sisters Lynda Kilpatrick, Lorna Stevens (Joe Albert), Bonnie (Eldon) Appleby, Margaret (Burt) St. Pierre, Anna Stevens (Gerry Keirstead), Heather Welton. Sister-in-law Rhonda Stevens, brother-in-law Bill Dickson.
Bev was predeceased by brothers Ernest and Leonard, sister Donna Dickson, brother-in-laws Frank Welton and Ralph Kilpatrick.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2018, 2 to 5 and 6 to 8PM. The funeral service will be held Friday, January 12, 2018, 11:00AM at Midland Baptist Church, Midland, NB. Interment will take place in the Bayview Cemetery in the spring.
