Obituary of George McConnachie
George McConnachie of Cambridge-Narrows died peacefully at the Fredericton Hospice on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the age of 95. George was born in Huntly, Scotland in 1923, son of the late Alexander & Wilimina (Tosh)
George was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion serving in Italy & Holland during WWII from 1941-45. He held employment in a number of fields, retiring in 1989 after 17 years as proprietor of McConnachie’s General Store. Throughout the years he served on local school boards, municipal government & provincial government committees being honoured in 2012 with the Diamond Jubilee Medal for his service to fellow citizens, community and country. He remained active well into his 90’s caring for his home & gardens with much love & pride. George’s annual outdoor Christmas decorations were a delight to his family as well as the community. He will be greatly missed by family & his many friends.
George is survived by his wife Pauline; daughter Coleen Alanthwaite of Vancouver, BC; grandchildren Amanda and Alex; great-grandchildren Zachary, Gavin, Kaiden and Ande-Lee; daughter-in-law Frances McConnachie (Graham); and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Michael; daughter Cherie; sister Mary; brothers Sandy and Bill.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, where visitation will be held from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, January 24. 2018. Funeral service will be held from Sherwood’s Chapel at 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 25, 2018.
