Obituary of Jeff Martin
With broken hearts, we announce the unexpected death of Jeffery Ronald Martin, age 45, on Friday, May 11, 2018. Jeff was the husband of Naomi (Neill) Martin of Henderson Settlement, NB. He was born in Sussex, NB, on March 9, 1973, the son of Evelyn (Lawson) and the late Ronald Martin of Henderson Settlement.
Jeff was a country boy from the get go with a heart of gold and a work ethic like no other. He was the best of the best. He did things only one way – the right way. As a boy he was always in the dirt playing with Tonka toys or figuring out the mechanics of how they worked. As soon as he was old enough he could be found in the passenger seat of his dads truck. As he got older Jeff could be found where ever Chris was and always with the BEST friends around him. Jeff had a thing for big trucks and big cars. His Parisienne with the whip antenna could be seen at any time at a high rate of speed or leaving the odd black mark. It was no shock to anyone that he'd one day be behind the wheel of a red Binder following in the footsteps of Ronnie. Jeff has traveled from coast to coast with and without a map – doing his job with determination, class, and perfection – moving his 18 wheeler with ease in and around places most wouldn't consider with a car. He was so proud of what his Dad and Mom had started, building a company one truck at a time. Though trucks took him away from home and to many different places, home was always "The Settlement".
Jeff has put on millions of miles in many different trucks hauling anything that could be hooked on to his fifth wheel. Although he drove Internationals for years his favourite was his Kenworth W900L. The Cab-over was a close second saying that "that old thing looks better and better every time I look at it". He took great pride in keeping what ever he drove in tip top shape making sure it was working, and looking, its best. Many nights he could be found in the garage making sure all of his chicken lights were working before heading out with a load.
In May of 1999, we got married. Not too long after came our wonderful kids – Owen, Hayden and Emma. Our big tough truck driver waited on us hand and foot. There wasn't anything he wouldn't do for any of us. He loved us all so much and told us many times throughout each and every day. If he wasn't telling us with words, he was showing us in everything he did. We were his world and he was ours.
Jeff was an irreplaceable husband and father always beaming with pride when he spoke of his family. Jeff was a mamas boy. He was both a devoted son and brother. He always made sure things were ok at the barn and the garage before heading home for the night. He was an uncle to Bruce who he adored and in time became an uncle to many more little ones. He was like a big brother to his friends – always there when you needed him on and off the highway.
Ron Martin & Sons turned into CJ Martin & Sons in 2007 after losing their Dad in June of 2001. This was a game changer for us all. Both Chris and Jeff with all of their hard work have continued their family company. They own and operate both a construction and transport company that is known for their quality of work and their pride in what they do.
There will forever be an enormous hole in our hearts that can never be filled. He was our rock and my go-to as a wife, a mother and a best friend. He gave the best hugs and was always always there when we needed him. Gone but never ever forgotten. Heroes are remembered, but legends never die.
Jeff is survived by his wife Naomi; sons Owen and Hayden; daughter Emma; mother Evelyn; brother Chris and Liza; father and mother-in-law Ivan and Marjorie Neill; brothers-in-law Vance and Denise, and Mike and Jody; sister-in-law Ginny and Mike; special nephew Bruce and Erica, as well as, several other aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.
