On Thursday, November 9th, 2018, after an adventuresome seventy-one years, the amazing life of George Brian Jost came to an end. George accomplished more than most of us ever dream of. He was formally trained as a sheet metal worker but was self educated in a multitude of fields. As a life long learner, George was constantly reading and expanding his skill set. Some of his achievements include: owning and operating Jost Sheet Metal Works, a wild game farm, a poultry processing plant, a country store, an apple orchard, a fish farm, and a zoo he founded for his son, Kalem. George believed that one could do anything... with enough hard work. He learned the trades of stonework, masonry, gardening, plumbing and construction (he built two houses from the ground up along with a multitude of other structures). Ever resourceful, George was continuously creating with found material: from bottle walls, to stone buildings, to eccentric fencing. Though he never called himself an artist he leaves behind impressive wire sculptures, fine wood carvings, stained glass pieces, and one of a kind, hand-hammered copper weather vanes. But there is ever more to his legacy. He taught constantly and at any given moment he would share his knowledge and insight. This helped shape the capabilities and work ethics of all who spent time with him. He demanded as much of others as he did from himself and lived by the belief that "can’t" is not a word. It has been said by more than one person, that he would work you so hard that you could hate him for it; but, after work was finished, he would invite you to sit down to share a drink and a conversation, and you would love him all the more. George could hold a conversation with anyone. He was always unafraid to voice his opinion and humble enough to change his mind. He would go toe to toe with intellects, preachers and even toddlers. George lived his life fully...every single moment. Finally, George loved fiercely and his family and friends knew this love. Arrangements are entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB. At George's request there will not be any visitation or funeral service. In lieu of flowers his family asks that you have a drink in his honour.
