Obituary of Ken McConchie
With broken hearts, we announce the unexpected death of Kenneth Lavern McConchie of Norton, NB, on Friday, February 7, 2020 at the age of 66. Ken was the husband of Mary Theresa (McQuinn) McConchie. He was born January 5, 1954, in Sussex, NB, the son of the late Lavern and Ethel (Price) McConchie.
Ken’s strong work ethic began early in life, growing up on a farm. He spent his younger years riding horses, trucking and playing hockey. Ken and Mary were married on September 11, 1976, and lived in Saint John until moving to Norton in 1980. Ken’s electrical career began with Norman W Francis, then McAvity’s before going to Point Lepreau. Moving back to Norton, he and Larry continued to truck and run the family farm. Ken stayed in the electrical field while farming, then their family grew, life became busy. As the kids became involved in activities, Ken was right there with them. He tried to pass on his love of farming to Jane as she became involved in 4-H. He spent countless hours coaching hockey, softball and passing on his horseback riding abilities. In recent years, he always found time to spend with his grandchildren, swimming in the pool or fishing on the hill. Ken has left a huge impact on the hockey community. He continued to coach, manage and mentor long after his kids had moved on. He truly enjoyed the 10 plus years he spent with the Hampton Hurricanes/Southern Sting. He liked it so much he retired from it twice! This made more time for Ken and Mary to travel with many of their closest friends.
When it came to his electrical career, Ken took great pride in his work. He was quick to point out if something was misplaced, whether a box, wire or staple. He was always available for his customers, no matter the time of day or night, rain or shine. He never hesitated to head out to help a customer in need, new or old, regardless of the urgency of the call. Ken was able to instill these values within his children and was proud to have Joel and John work alongside him over the years, while Jake followed Uncle Larry into the trucking business.
It is evident to us, over the past few days, how well respected he was within our community.
Ken is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Theresa; children: Jane McConchie-Payne and her husband Jeff, Joel and his wife Julie, John and his wife Joanna Vlamakis, Jake and his fiancé Hilary Sharp; grandchildren: Lucas, Gracein, Adele, Connell, Caroline, Lila, Vassili, Levi & Audrey; brother Larry (Carol) McConchie of Norton; sister; Jean (Bill) Chestnut of Sussex; brother-in-law Shaun (Laura) McQuinn; sisters-in-law: Anne (Bob) Blanchard, Margaret (Gene) Aiton, Monica (Peter) MacWilliam; as welll as many cherished nieces and nephews.
