Obituary of Cecilia Cochrane
"When tomorrow starts without me don’t think we’re far apart, for every time you think of me I’m right here in your heart."
Cecilia Catherine Cochrane (O’Connor/Hurdle) peacefully left this earth to join her many loved ones on June 21, 2020 at Kiwanis Nursing Home in Sussex, NB.
The seventh daughter of the late Charles and Josephine (Dempsey) O’Connor, Cec was the last remaining member of her immediate family. She was born in Halifax, NS, on November 24, 1929, and resided there happily for most of her life. She was a strong, confident, independent woman who lived life to the fullest with a loving heart, a bit of sass, and a great sense of humour. She had a generosity that could rarely be matched and could always be counted on for advice or to help find the silver lining. She was a wonderful cook and all who sat at her table were welcomed with a feast. Cec was a very social person whose love of getting dressed up to go dancing was only rivaled by the love she had for her family and friends.
Cecilia is survived by her Daughter, Beverley (Brian) Monahan of Sussex, NB; Grandchildren, Trevor Horvath of Calgary, AB; Chelsea (Mike) Aleksich of Canadensis, PA; Lonne (Cynthia) Culhane of Calgary, AB; Ashley Monahan (Mark Morrell) of Sussex, NB; and Jared Monahan (Sarah Meehan) of Sussex, NB; Great Grandchildren, Makayla, Marshall, Taylor, Paige, Grace, Landon, and Kieran; as well as several nieces and nephews. She will also live on in the hearts of her best friend Jean Burke and special friend Bob Wilson.
In addition to her parents, Cecilia was predeceased by her beloved daughter Arlene Culhane, her husbands James Hurdle and Leonard Cochrane, and her three brothers Frank (Ruth), Joseph, and James (Mary) O’Connor and her seven sisters Catherine O’Connor, Helena (Art) White, Doris O’Connor, Gertrude (Ambrose) McLean, Kathleen (Fen) Craft, Mary (Eddie) Copp, and Audrey (Art) Findlay.
The family would like to extend a sincere thanks and appreciation to the amazing staff of Kiwanis Nursing Home for the loving and compassionate care she received in her final years.
Winnie the Pooh said it best, "How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard."
