Obituary of David Babyak

The death of David Joseph Babyak, age 63, of Wickham, NB, and formerly of Sussex, occurred at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on Tuesday, July 20, 2010. He was born on September 16, 1946 in Esterhazy, SK, the son of the late Albert and Aimee (Pirot) Babyak. Dave Babyak was a man who worked hard all of his life. He worked in the mining industry and traveled to many places as a result. His adventurous spirit found him working in Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories, Alberta, Ontario, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, New Mexico, New Brunswick, Mongolia and Indonesia. He worked for many mining companies including PCS, Potacan, Redpath, Cementation, Xtreme Mining and most recently, SCR Mines Technology. For many years Dave lived in Sussex, N.B. where he had many friends and participated in softball, hockey and bowling. He was a man who played as hard as he worked. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors. He also enjoyed boating and hanging out at the cottage on the Washedemoak. He would often sit with a coffee in one hand and a crossword puzzle in the other. His travels allowed him to fulfill two lifetime dreams; to hunt big horn sheep and to walk on the Great Wall of China. Dave loved his family very much and would often visit his brothers and sisters out west. He was a wonderful Grampy and taught many little ones how to throw a ball or ride a bike. He even learned how to bowl on the Wii. He embraced technology by learning to skype and e-mail after he turned 55. He was a caring man although he sometimes had a hard time showing it. His first words of any phone conversation were " How is everyone? How are the kids?" He will be greatly missed. David is survived by his daughters Susan and Glendon Lawson of Wickham, Shaunna Babyak and Keith Bessey of Sudbury, ON and Sherrie Moore of Abbotsford, BC; son Colin and Cathy Babyak of Nepean, ON and their mother Ruth Babyak of Saskatoon, SK; step-daughters Lori Rutherford and Chris Simon of Fort Smith, NWT, and Erin and Tim Flood of Clinton, ME and their mother Lynn Loughery of Saint-Anne des Monts, Quebec; grandchildren Stuart, Emily, Alyssa, Nathaniel, Aaron, Bronwyn, Finnlay, Ferghus, Meara and William; sisters Doretta and Don Halyk of Esterhazy, SK, Jeanette Brown and Rudy Krueger of Nanaimo, BC, and Rita Cooper of Edmonton, AB; brothers Chris and Linda Babyak of Estevan, SK, Dan and Charlotte Babyak of Esterhazy, SK, Jerry and Caryn Babyak of Esterhazy, SK and Ken and Linda Babyak of Edmonton, AB; sister-in-law Dianne Babyak; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
