The death of Rheta Elizabeth Appleby, age 85, wife of the late Frank Appleby of Cambridge-Narrows, NB, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, on Thursday, October 13, 2011. She was born on January 17, 1926, in Saint John, the daughter of Roy and Bertha (Thorne) Kierstead. Rheta was a member of the First Cambridge Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was a life member of the W.M.S. and President for the First Cambridge Baptist Group for over 20 years. Rheta is survived by daughters Nadine and Richard Tyner of Cambridge-Narrows and Joan Appleby of Saskatchewan; son Eldon and Bonnie Appleby of Cambridge-Narrows; granddaughters Brenda Carpenter, Colleen O’Connor, Sheila Black and Joanne Appleby; great grandchildren Madison and Logan O’Connor; step-grandchildren Richard and Keri Tyner and Traci Tyner; step-great grandchildren Krystal Hunter, Braydon Tyner and Shelby Tyner; brother, The Reverend Canon David Kierstead of Saint John; sister Connie and Russell Miller of Rothesay; sisters-in-law Shirley Kierstead of Rothesay and Margaret Appleby of Fredericton; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her twin sister Freda and baby sister Edith Kierstead; brother Robert Kierstead. She is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visiting on Sunday, from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm. A celebration of Rheta’s life, conducted by Rev. Aubrey Trail , will be held on Monday, October 17, 2011, at 11:00 am, from First Cambridge Baptist Church, MacDonald’s Corner, NB. Interment will follow in adjoining cemetery. Donations to a memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
