Obituary of Dot McConnachie

At the Oromocto Public Hospital on Thursday, February 29, 2012, surrounded by the love of her family, Dorothy Margaret (Bettle) McConnachie of MacDonald’s Corner, NB, went home to be at rest with her Lord and Saviour. Dot was born in Saint John, NB, on June 12, 1920, the eldest child of the late Judson and Rose Bettle. She attended school in Saint John and following her graduation from Business College, worked for the New System Dry-cleaning. When her family moved to Quispamsis she would take the train to work, cultivating a love for traveling by rail. In 1946, following the war, Dot married Sandy, her loving husband of 58 years. Together they established a farm along the Washademoak Lake in MacDonald’s Corner, where their days were filled caring for their four daughters, a few Jersey cows, a herd of Herefords, pigs, chickens, vegetables, grain and a woodlot. Dot loved working in her flower gardens and had a soft spot for the wild birds whom she faithfully fed. Dot was a member of the First Cambridge Church, where through the years she served as Sunday School teacher, organist and secretary-treasurer. She was a member of the church choir and a Life Member of the Women’s Missionary Society. She also enjoyed her time as a member of the Gloria Dei Singers, led by Mrs. Roy Cooper. Dot was predeceased by her husband Sandy; daughters Sheila, Heather and Margaret; brothers Daryl, Charlie, Ken, Doug and her only sister Barb Lorenzi; brother-in-law Bill (Elva) and sister-in-law Mary Jordan. She is survived by two daughters Sandra and Jim McFarland and Nancy, both of MacDonald’s Corner; son-in-law Bev and Rosemary Finnamore-Chown; grandchildren Jeff (Catherine), Brian (Andrea) of Iqualuit, Jamie (Fawn) of Ottawa, Jennifer of Calgary and Luke of MacDonald’s Corner; six great grandchildren Lena, Georgia, Patrick, Gavin, Kainen and Darien; sisters-in-law Iris, Geraldine, Phyllis and Lynn; brothers-in-law George (Pauline) and John Jordan; and many nieces and nephews. Dot is resting at the First Cambridge Baptist Church, MacDonald’s Corner, NB, where visitation will be held from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm. on Saturday. A service celebrating Dot’s life, conducted by Pastor Aubrey Trail, assisted by Rev. Phillip Penny, will be held from First Cambridge Baptist Church, at 3:00 pm. Sunday, March 4, 2012. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The family would appreciate remembrances to the First Cambridge Baptist Church Window Fund or the memorial of the donor’s choice.
