Obituary of Pauline Pearson
PEARSON, Pauline Alberta of Sussex. The family of Pauline Pearson, of Sussex, is saddened to announce her passing on June 8, 2012 at the age of 77. She was the eldest daughter of the late Dorothie (Fowlie) and Paul McMulkin and is survived by her three daughters: Paula (Gregory MacKinnon), Peggy (Neil Gillespie) and Pattie (Mark Northrup); three much loved grandchildren (Kyle Gillespie, Kayla Northrup and Alyssa Northrup), adopted daughter Carol (Bruce McFarlane), sisters Beth (Bart Yerxa) and MaryLou and many loving nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, A. Eldon Pearson, brother Peter McMulkin, brother-in-law Bill King and son-in-law Douglas Cook.
Born in Saint John on June 11, 1934, Paulie moved to Sussex at an early age where she attended Sussex High School and trained as a nurse at Saint John General Hospital. She practiced in New York for a short period, returning home to marry Eldie. They moved to Nova Scotia and then back to Sussex where they settled to raise their family. Throughout the many changes in Paulie’s life there were two constants: her love for her daughters and her dedication and commitment to nursing. Where ever she was, Paulie found patients and colleagues who benefited from her expertise and compassion as her professional community became her extended family. She will be forever remembered by her daughters for opening the Pearson home to their many friends. There was always an extra place at the table for numerous more daughters who simply called her "Mrs. P". Paulie loved gardening, decorating, entertaining and crosswords but most of all she loved sharing her life with others.
Paula, Peggy and Pattie extend a special thank you to Paulie’s colleagues at Sussex Health Centre who not only provided exemplary care but also shared special stories about working with Paulie. This was truly of great comfort. Words cannot express our gratitude to Dr. Patrick Sullivan for his expertise, compassion and patience with daughters who inherited her strong will. We would also like to thank her Great Oaks family for providing such a wonderful home and care over the last four years.
Arrangements, as per Paulie’s wishes, have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre, Norton (506) 839-2156. A graveside committal service will be held in Kirk Hill Cemetery, Sussex, NB, on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 10:00 am., followed by a reception at All Season's Inn and Restaurant (Banquet Room Entrance). Those wishing to make donations in Paulie’s memory may do so to the Sussex Health Centre Foundation or a charity of choice. Condolences to the family may be made through www.sherwoodsfuneralhome.com
