Obituary of Ruby Harrison

The death of Ruby Myrtle Harrison, age 93, of Belleisle Creek, NB, wife of the late George Harrison, occurred at Berwick Place, Berwick, NB, on Thursday, February 21, 2013. She was born in Belleisle Creek, NB, on January 6, 1920, the daughter of the late Caleb & Mary (Boyd) Northrup. Ruby grew up on a farm in Jolliffs Brook. She attended school in a one room school house where she completed grade 8 (the highest grade given at that school at that time). She went to work in Sussex where she worked in a hotel and then to Rothesay to work at the Netherwood School for girls. She then went to Kingston where she worked for the Northrup family for a few years after their mother passed away. Kingston is where she met the love of her life, her husband of 42 years, George Harrison. They moved to Washburn, Maine shortly after they were married, this is where they had their 5 children: Albert, Mary, Sharon, Bruce and Beth. They lived there until 1954 when they moved back to Joliffs Brook where they settled and raised their family. She did lots of different jobs over the years, including: working in the blueberry fields, driving school bus, working at Cripps' Store, Belleisle Gardens, Ian Thompsons, and too many other jobs to mention. She sold Avon, Tupperware and Studio Girl. Saying that Ruby was social is an understatement! She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #76 and the LOBA Lodge. She attended card parties, bingo, crib, and darts regularly. She loved her family and attended every family gathering that she could, she especially liked to have annual Harrison Family Reunions. She loved knitting, gardening, farming - her chickens and and geese-, crocheting, dancing, reading, hunting, fishing, visiting, talking on the phone, travelling and just driving in general. Ruby loved music, she enjoyed Randy Vail's songs most of all and listened to the Sunday Night Jamboree on Country 94 whenever she had the chance. Ruby was always up for anything and helped out everyone whenever and however she could. She lived her 93 years to the fullest! Ruby is survived by her daughters Mary & Donnie Moss of Mill Cove, NB, Sharon & Carl Graham of East Scotch Settlement, NB, Beth Wilson & Calvin Hann of Midland, NB; sons Albert & Ilene Harrison of Salmon Creek, NB, Bruce & Wanda Harrison of Stewarton, NB; 14 grandchildren Dana, Sherry, Paula, Talmage, Michael, Robyn, Ryan, Kristy, Faron, Karen, George, Patrick, Melissa and Caleb; 21 great grandchildren Whitney, Mariah, Sarah, Reyna, Nicholas, Danni, Dakota, Maya, Corlee, Tressa, Odette, James, Jared, Morgan, Rebecca, Jesse, Dillon, Connor, Ethan, Samara and Zendaya. She was predeceased by an infant brother and sister. She is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visiting on Saturday from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Celebration of Ruby’s life, conducted by Pastor Preston Mowry, will be held from Kings Kirk United Church, Belleisle Creek, NB, at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 25, 2013. Interment will follow later in Union Cemetery, Belleisle Creek. Donations in memory of Ruby, may be made of the memorial of the donor’s choice.
