It is with deep sadness, the family announces the death of C. Winsor Cunningham of Belleisle Creek, NB, husband of Frances (Mercer) Cunningham, which occurred on Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, with his family at his side. He was born on June 20, 1941 in Searsville, NB, a son of the late Charles and Vida (Hayes) Cunningham. Winsor once said, "It's a long road, a winding road, but smile cause you married a guy from Belleisle". A line from one of his letters "In 1964 I married the most beautiful girl you ever seen, we settled in Saint John and had two beautiful daughters." And just that he did. He married the most beautiful girl he ever seen, Frances Mercer, he won her heart. They settled in Saint John where he began working as a sales man for Coca-Cola then on to Hostess where he made lifelong friends. He and Frances had two wonderful daughters which brought them five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Winsor was a strong, hard working man from a young age, from farming, twitching wood with his old horse Vicker, traveling to Ontario to pick tobacco and then becoming the "Pop & Chip" man. He always talked very highly of his work and the work was never done. In 1981 they built a home back in Belleisle on the family land. A bit of a cultural shock for his daughters coming from the busy city to play with the ole country boys. During their time in Saint John they made a lot of lifelong friends, and till this day they all still get together - The Champlain Heights Crew. In 1992 Winsor's health took a turn, but he never gave up and always had a smile. You would never know what battle he was fighting. He loved working in the woods, we would often find him and the dog having a nap in the brush pile. Even though he taught his kids and the grandkids from a young age, not one of them could pile wood the way he could. You would never find a stick out of place. He also took pride and joy growing his garden, he would grow the biggest garden he could. Winsor was very generous with his freshly grown vegetables and would distribute them to friends and neighbours, but always making sure that he had enough for him and Frances to make their annual batches of pickles. Winsor is survived by his much loved and cherished wife of 50 years Frances Cunningham; he was the beloved father to daughters; Cindy Boyd and her husband Andrew of Belleisle Creek, NB and Kim Fulford and her husband Brad of Sussex Corner, NB; he greatly loved and was tremendously proud of his grandchildren; Jody, Kory, Ashley, Kaylee and Baleigh; he was delighted at the birth of his great-grandchildren Willow and Chloee. He is also survived by sister Ruth Brown and her husband Glen of McGregor Brook, NB; aunt Ida Higgins; he will be remembered and sadly missed by several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by sister Marguerite Otis. He is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, where visitation will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014 from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm. The funeral service, conducted by Rev. Tom Robinson, will be held from Kings Kirk United Church at 11:00 am, on Saturday, October 11, 2014. Interment will take place in Midland Cemetery.
