Obituary of Margaret Mercer
It is with sadness, the family of Margaret Matilda Mercer, age 93, announces her death, at the Dr. Snow Centre, Hampton, NB, on February 7, 2015. She is the wife of Carl Mercer of Norton, NB. Margaret was born on March 13, 1921, in Sussex, NB, the daughter of the late Melbourne and Myrtle (McEwen) Aiton.
Today we celebrate Mom's Life. She was a business woman before her time. After graduating from business college she started as a teacher and then enjoyed a lengthy career at G. Fox & Co. She was a firm believer that anything worth doing is worth doing well.
Jewellery, clothing , gardening and their dog Shadow were her passions. After retiring her and Dad enjoyed traveling , flea markets, and discovering new restaurants. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and was totally devoted to Dad
Margaret is survived by her husband Carl; children Bonnie Mercer and Carmen Whittier both of Poodiac, NB; grandchildren Shonna Maddocks, Archlyn Maddocks, Corey Marraty, Christie Whittier, David Whittier and Lee Whittier; great grandchildren Nicole Banks, Jena Hoss, Matthew Hoss, Amanda Marraty, Ashley Marraty, Aidan Stuart and Jenna Stuart; great-great grandsons Nathan and Hunter; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter Carlene Wendy Mercer; son-in-law John Whittier; sisters Melva Hornbrook and Ruth Waterson; brothers Ainsley Aiton, Melbourne Aiton and Arthur Aiton.
She is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, with visitation on Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm.
The funeral service, conducted by Rev. Karen MacNeill will be held from Sherwood’s Chapel at 11:00 am, on Thursday, February 12, 2015. Interment will take place in the spring in Riverbank Cemetery.
