Obituary of Rita Ganong
Surrounded by her family, Rita Eileen Ganong (Stanley) of Kiersteadville, age 88, wife of Paul Ganong, passed away, at the Saint John Regional Hospital on June 24, 2015. She was born in Hampton, NB, the daughter of the late Milton and Mabel Stanley. Rita Ganong, born July, 26, 1926, lived a full life. She was a hard worker, who enjoyed her family, "running the roads", and talking on the telephone.
Rita Ganong finished High School in Hampton and took a year of Business College in a time when most didn’t finish past grade 8. Her keen mind continued to be evident in Scrabble games of later years. She loved keeping track of family and travelling to places like Tim Horton’s in both Hampton and Sussex to see friends, family, and neighbours over coffee. She also liked attending church. Over the years she and Paul made many trips out west, which she would talk about with great fondness. As a young girl Rita cleaned house for a local piano teacher who gave her lessons in exchange for the cleaning. Rita became an accomplished pianist and delighted many local congregations.
Rita will be sadly missed by daughters Paulette and Garnie Boyd, Cathy and Fraser Morrell, Bonnie Ganong and Doug Bates, Tammy and Troy Duplessis; son Ronald and Susan Ganong; 18 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; brothers Curtis Stanley of Kiersteadville, Keith Stanley of Quispamsis, Ronald Stanley of Woodstock, and; sisters Lois Bartlett of St. Stephen, Shirley Flegg of Hatfield Point, Glenna Ronson of Ontario; sister in law, Shirley Stanley of Hampton; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her sons Jeffrey and Terry; brothers George, Murray, and Roy; sisters Lillian, Evelyn, Jean and infant twin sisters.
She is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, with visiting on Friday from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm.
