Obituary of Elaine Hayes

It is with heavy hearts that the family of J. Elaine Hayes of Norton, NB, announce her passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on December 31, 2020.

Elaine was born in Summerhill, NB on July 28, 1946 and was the daughter of the late Douglas and Doris (Earle) Kerr. Elaine attended Belleisle Regional High School and graduated in 1965 where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Clifford Hayes. They were married on June 18, 1966.

Elaine was a work at home mom for many years until she got a job at the Norton Post Office, where she eventually retired from. Elaine was a member of Kings Kirk United Church and was also involved with the Basement Players for many years. Elaine loved to run the roads and spent time meeting friends for coffee/breakfast, travelling to Moncton to see her girls, or going to yard sales with her dear cousin in Fredericton. Her most treasured times were spent with her family and attending every Charley Pride concert in NB with her girls and meeting him in person several times.

Elaine will live on in the hearts of Clifford, her husband of 54 years, her daughters Kelly Hayes-McEachern and her husband Kevin of Moncton; Kim Leland and her husband Michael of Moncton; her son Kevin Hayes of Norton; Kevin’s beloved dog, Ebby; five adored grandchildren: Garnet & Colin LeMesurier, Jason and Rachel Leland, and Keaton Cook; her brother Wayne Kerr and his wife Florence of Sussex, and sister Darlene Cunningham of Saint John. She was predeceased by her parents, Douglas and Doris Kerr and brother Glendon Kerr.

Elaine’s family would like to thank Dr. Dolan, Dr. Jansen, Dr. Beckett, Dr. O’Brien, and the wonderful nurses of the Palliative Care unit.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Center (506-839-2156) at 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, where visitation will be held following strict COVID-19 protocols on Monday, January 4th from 2 to 4PM & 6 to 8PM.  A private family funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 5th with live streaming being available through Sherwoodsfuneralhome.com.  Interment will be held in the spring at Midland Cemetery.

For those who wish, remembrances can be made to Kings Kirk United Church in Belleisle, Canadian Cancer Society, or the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family and donations may be made through: www.sherwoodsfuneralhome.com
