We first met Ken and Jean in 1990 when we moved to Belleisle and started going to Kings Kirk United. Our singing group, "Kings Khoral", used to put on a tribute of War time music for the Veterans and community called "A Time to Remember" around Remembrance Day and Ken always seemed to enjoy it as much as we enjoyed learning and performing the songs. Our group was privileged to be able to come together and do a visit with Ken at the Veteran's Hospital(pre-covid) and put on a sing song for the residents. He was always friendly, quiet, caring and busy working on a project. He was a great community and Church oriented man who will be greatly missed. Our sympathy goes out to the family. All of the tributes to Ken Newell come as no surprise. Upon hearing of his passing, I could only think of what a great guy he was. Having been a Belleisle girl in the days when girls took home ec and the boys shop, it was amazing to me that he would know me by my given name whenever we would meet at a community event in the area. I had not known his story, but as Seth said: Against all odds! His service was a lovely tribute to his life.

I wish to extend my most sincere sympathy to all of Ken's family. He was my Industrial Arts teacher and we worked together on building a house for Lee Boyd's Construction in 1972. I was totally new to construction and Ken or rather Mr Newell to me, continued to ensure I gained as much knowledge as possible. It is fair to say he showed great patience and always had a smile on his face. I have always respected Ken as a teacher and general all over gentleman. I last saw him at my brother's funeral in 2012 and told him how much I had appreciated him and all he had taught me. He graciously accepted my comments with his well known smile and chuckle. May your fondest memories help during this difficult time. Rest is peace Ken "Mr. Newell".

My sincere condolences to Ken's family. I was lucky to have known Ken and to be his family doctor for several years. He was the most organized man I have ever known and he showed up promptly for his first appointment carrying a neatly typed medical history, including surgeries, medications and allergies. I believe he was one of the very few who followed my advice in choosing a healthy diet and regular exercise, which should be a lesson to all of us as he lived to be 99. (Unfortunately I cannot take credit for this. It was the way he had always lived his life.) I will miss his humor and his kind and friendly personality.

Gina and I were saddened this morning to read in the paper of Ken's death on his 99th birthday.
While we didn't know him well (not as well as we wish we had), we were always delighted to see him. He showed us great kindness and generosity and his cheerfulness made every day brighter.
It's very sad to see the numbers of those old soldiers grow smaller and smaller.
They knew things from their experiences that we will never know, and mainly, that knowledge made them better citizens and better people.
We were lucky in New Brunswick and in Canada to have had Ken Newell... our very deepest sympathy to his family - in particular to Terry, who we know best.

Dear Joyce, Heather and Terry:
Our condolences on the passing of such a sweet, kind, thoughtful individual that Uncle Ken was. His passing has left a huge hole in my heart, and to say that he will be missed, is an understatement.
It always made my day a little brighter when I had a regular chat with Ken, no matter what the topic, he would fill my head with knowledge, and I always looked forward to his musings. At the end of our chats over the past year, we got into the habit of saying 'I love You', rather than good-bye, and it made the chats that much more special.

To all of Ken's Family and Friends, my deepest condolences on his passing. I got to know Ken fairly well as his room was opposite my brother, Ray's, for some time at Ridgewood. I was saddened when I heard this afternoon of his death. He will be sadly missed but fondly and honorably remembered. The Remembrance Day service at Ridgewood in 2019 was very moving to me and Ken took a part in that service. Ken and I exchanged phone numbers and occasionally one of us would call the other. He was aware that I had worked with both Brenda and Linda, and that gave us something to speak of. The last time I spoke with Ken was early January and am so glad I made that call. I did get a chance to see Ken late last year at Ridgewood although because of Covid-19 could not visit or have a chat with him. I am so thankful that I got to know him and my heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time.
