Obituary of Jock Callaghan Otis

It is with broken hearts that the family of Jock Callaghan Otis announce his passing which occurred on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born in Midland, NB, on December 15, 1939. Jock was the son of the late Melbourne and Helen (Callaghan) Otis.

Jock was a wonderful father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend to many. Having been a true Christian disciple, he served the Lord in many ways. Jock was always giving of his time, giving of his talent and was always willing to help people. He was constantly support missions, preaching in several churches which included Shannon Baptist Church that he preached at for 28 years. During his working career, he spent 33 years at the Saint John Winterport.

Jock is survived by his loving wife Carol (Morrell) Otis; children: Kim Baptist (Duane), James Otis (Heidi), Tammy Moore (Brent), Edwin Otis (Marilyn), Janet Guptill (Keith), Judy Hall (Russell), Duane Otis (Jennifer) and Troy Otis (Tanya); sister Merle Gorveatte (Ken); brother Peter Otis (Susan); brother-in-law Bart Macumber; sister-in-law Linda Otis; twenty-three grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Jock was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth Otis (Cosman); brothers: Melbourne, Donald, and Ronald Otis; infant brother Stewart; sister Patricia Macumber; and infant sister Lillian.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home (506-839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB.  Visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, from 3 to 7PM from the Norton Wesleyan Church, 676 Route 124, Norton. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, September 28 at 2:00PM from the Norton Wesleyan Church. Interment will take place at Midland Cemetery, Midland, NB.
