To all the Smith families. I was so shocked to hear of Doug's sudden passing. He was a Belleisle fixture! Last time I saw him was at Tim Hortons. We used to have great conversations at the P.O. and were old school chums ! May all your precious memories sustain you at this time.

It's with sadness that I read of Doug's passing. He certainly was funny and friendly. It was nice to talk to him about something we shared ....Long haul trucking. He was a fixture for me as a kid growing up in Belleisle. It wasn't hard to run into him at the convenience store across from the post office in Belleisle having a bottle of pop and a bag of chips. I knew him as a kind hearted man he will be missed by many. Our thoughts and prayers are with family and friends during this difficult time

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of John Douglas. In earlier years I would see him at Anderson family gatherings. I remember him as a quiet soul. It's heart warming to see the loving expressions of his personality by his friends and relatives.

I am so sorry to hear of John Douglas' passing. My Mom and Doug's father were siblings. Mom, Doug's Aunt June, had a very soft spot in her heart for Doug. She regularly kept in touch with him and as a result, our family benefited from his visits. There were many livingroom chats and laughs had about farming and horses. I remember after a story was told, Doug often responded, "Yes Sir..."
Mom always reached out to Doug over the Christmas holidays, not only because it was Christmas but because he was a New Years baby and Happy Birthday wishes were in order. She always had a parcel of home knit mittens and food ready for him on his Christmas visit.
Our family was so touched when Doug was able to attend Mom's funeral and reception. He was not well himself and yet he took the time and energy to attend and show his respects.
It is hoped that when Doug passed, he was doing what he loved, taking care of his horses.
Rest in peace John Douglas. You will be missed.

I am so very sorry to hear of Doug's passing. I would sometimes take Mom out for drives and the last summer before she passed, we dropped by to visit. She loved him like a son always wishing he would visit more often. She always had something for him, like hand knit mits or socks. He was John Douglas to her. My last time I saw John Douglas was at Mom's funeral. He was not well then and our family was so grateful that he was able to be there. He got to see a lot of his cousins that day on the Anderson side of his family. Rest easy my cousin, Stella

My heart is heavy with pain and memories. Doug was our cousin, uncle (was adopted by our grandparents) and our friend. He was our tormenter, our next door neighbour, our brother. Doug was an only child but we became his family. So many memories of a man who was always good to us. We love you Doug and we will miss you always. Rest in peace, you have earned it.
