Obituary of Roy Pope
It is with great sadness that the family of Roy S. Pope announce his passing which occurred on Monday, October 2, 2023, at the Sussex Health Centre, Sussex, NB. Born in Southampton, England, on February 10, 1922, he was the son of the late George and Annie (Everett) Pope.
Roy moved to the Belleisle Creek Area in 1951 and established a market gardening operation. This operation evolved over the years to become what is now known as Belleisle Foods Limited and distributes products throughout Canada. Roy was involved with the creation of a Recreation Council for the area and served as Chairman for several years. He was also the founding Chairman of the Vegetable Growers Association of New Brunswick. Roy was a founding member of the Southern New Brunswick Woodlot Owners Association, served on the Sussex Health Centre board as well as the Kings County Solid Waste Committee. He was very involved with the Norton Legion and was a pillar in the community. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Roy is survived by his sons: Peter (Brenda) Pope of Kars, NB and Fred (Donna) Pope of Keirsteadville, NB, and daughter-in-law Gwen (her late husband Roy Jr) Pope; grandchildren: Tony Pope (Sherry), Jeanette Howley (Jeremy), Bradley Pope (Susan), Shawn Pope (Jennifer), Barry Pope (Isabel), Dennie Pope (Tanya), Kristopher Pope (Catherine), Jillian Wilson (Andrew), Jensen Pope (Kara) and Kyle Pope (Katerina); great grandchildren: Connor, Cameron, Gabrielle, Samuel, Emmerson, Avery, Emma, Laura, Jack, Taylor, Bodhi, Emmilou, Zachary, Hannah, Hayden, Holden and Ellie. In addition to his parents, Roy was predeceased by his loving wife Agnes Pope (Jensen); special son Gary Scott; and brothers George Pope and Teddy Pope.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, where visitation will be held on Thursday, October 12, from 4 to 7PM. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 11:00AM from Sherwood’s Funeral Chapel. A private family interment will take place at St. Simon & St. Jude’s Anglican Cemetery, Belleisle Creek, NB.
