To all of Helen's family...we were saddened to hear of Helen's passing..sending our condolences...Helen and her homemaker, drove down to our place, just across the road, one day this summer. We had 3 big trees cut down, and she wanted to see how much wood was going to be there...She tapped her cane on the stump, of one of the trees, yes that was a big tree she says, and continued on with, Bill, I don't suppose you could cut that tall grass, by the drain, I can't see anything down here!, lol
Another time, last year, she was only 95! and wanted to mow her lawn, but she couldn't get the lawn mower to go, our phone wasn't working and she had tried calling Bill to come look at it and since she got no answer, she walked down her driveway, came across to ours, and down she came, but of course she had her cane, so she figured she was safe. I went to the door and said Helen what are you doing, well I tried to call Bill to come look at the lawn mower, but there was no answer, so I thought I better come down to make sure you're ok!
And the lawn mower wasn't broken, Bill said Helen the sparkplug(?) was unhooked...he hooked it up, she was happily mowing the lawn going, 1 mile per hour...low and behold someone in the family took it off so she couldn't mow!!!
In years past, as I sat on my deck, looking up at Helen's and there she was out in the yard, pulling weeds, wheelbarrow full of wood, using the shovel digging, she made my back hurt just watching her, she was probably only 88 then, lol
Last winter Bill was walking every morning, down the road. We saw Helen and Julie in Sussex, Helen said I see you walking everyday Bill, I always wave and you never wave back, why? Bill replied, I always look up Helen, but the sun shining on your patio door, I can't tell if you're there or not...the next morning, out Bill goes for his walk, gets to the top of the driveway, looks up at Helen's, and waves both hands up in the air, towards her place...and when he came back, he did it again, everyday, lol
Helen, we'll miss seeing you out on the deck, and waving up to you, your phone calls for Bill to come fix something, hearing Penny bark. It was a pleasure, being your neighbor for 45 years...hugs to all
