Obituary of Connie Clement

It is with great sadness that the family of Connie Lynn Clement announce her passing which occurred on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at the Dr V.A. Snow Centre in Hampton, NB. Born in Sussex, NB on January 4, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Lillian (Burlock) Radcliffe.

Connie is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Alcide Clement of Norton, NB; children: Scott Clement (Vito Natola) of Maple Ridge, BC and Christa Layman (Jeff) of Saint John, NB; her two precious grandchildren Sophia and Mitchell Layman; sister Karen Cripps of Sussex Corner, NB. Connie will be missed by her large extended family of brothers and sisters-in-laws, and many, many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Connie was predeceased by her brother-in-law Richard Cripps.

Having spent her early years growing up in Sussex, Connie was surrounded by a loving family. After high school, she attended Teacher’s college in Fredericton, before spending many years as a substitute teacher in Saint John, Norton, and Belleisle.  Connie secured a position of principal at the last two-room schoolhouse in Lower Millstream New Brunswick, before going on to Apohaqui Elementary School for the duration of her teaching career surrounded by the many students she would fondly refer to as “her kids”.  She was a favourite teacher to many, and her legacy continues in the memory of all who still consider her their “favourite teacher”.  Connie believed in respect, equality, and the abilities of all, no matter who they were.  Her favorite place was outside with the children at lunch and she so generously gave her time and her heart to all.

Connie’s love of learning and teaching never ended.  She found wonders in the every day and made it a beautiful experience for those around her.  She had a profound love of nature, her husband, family, friends, and animals of every kind. Her vibrancy and thirst for knowledge included long walks on the beach with her husband collecting shells and beach rocks, camping and travel.  She was an avid reader, gardener, artist, and lover of music.  Her enthusiasm was infectious.  She was the life of the party, Her laugh was joyous and full, and she never had an unkind word to say about anyone. 

Her message of patience and kindness will transcend her life, in those who knew her, and in her memory, that lesson has taught us all the importance of hope and positivity in a world full of change

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB where visitation will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 4pm to 7pm. A graveside service will be at the Riverbank Cemetery at a later date. Donations in memory of Connie may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the charity of the donor’s choice.
