Obituary of Gordon Kennedy

It is with great sadness that the family of Gordon Charles Kennedy of Kars, NB announce his passing on August 7, 2024 at his home in Kars, NB.  Born in Hibernia, NB on March 7, 1944 he was the son of the late Frederick and Nellie (Smith) Kennedy.

Gordon spent 9 years of his childhood in Hibernia before his parents would move to Kars, NB. There he would see his family continue to grow to 11 brothers and 3 sisters. He was the second oldest in the family.

After marrying the love of his life, Leta on August 21, 1965, he built a house and began to raise a family in Kars where he would spend the rest of his life.

Early in their marriage they attended Bethel Pentecostal Church in Millcove, NB where he served on the board of trustees and taught Sunday School. After a few years they began to attend Outreach Pentecostal Church in Hatfield Point, where he also served on the church board and taught Sunday School.

Gordon loved God and being part of church family. He was devoted to praying and reading his bible daily.

Gordon loved to work in the woods, hunt, fish, work on vehicles and mow his lawns.  He also loved spending time at the camp. He was very talented at the craft of carpentry, where he and his brother -in-law Ed Clark started a construction business in 1974 and never parted ways until they retired from the business in recent years.

Gordon was the kindest man and had a heart of gold. He was a friend to everyone, the best father one could ask for, an amazing grandfather and great grandfather, and an extraordinary husband.

Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Leta (Moss) Kennedy of Kars, NB; children: Shelley Kennedy of Kars, NB; Charles and Patti (Hatfield) Kennedy of Hatfield Point, NB; grandchildren: Kirk (Wendy) Scott, Jena Scott, Simon Kennedy, Hilary (Luca) Rogers; great grandchildren: Jaxson, Charlie, Ada and Dominic;  brothers Robert (Jean), Willard (Celia), Donald (Helen), John (Judy), Kenneth (Sandra), Gerald, Dale (Cheryl), Rev. Dean (Leona), Cecil (Christine), Ivan (Cindy), sisters; Ruth (Edward) Clark, Carol (Merle) Hawkes, Cathy (Quincy) Arbeau; aunts: Eileen Kennedy, Irene McEwen, Maxine Kennedy; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents Gordon was predeceased by his daughter Karen Kennedy and brother Ed Kennedy.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), Norton, NB. He is resting at Outreach Pentecostal Church, 2129 Route 124, Hatfield Point, NB, with visiting on Sunday, August 11, 2024 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. The funeral service will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024 at 11:00 AM, from Outreach Pentecostal Church. Private family interment will take place in Bayview Cemetery.
