Obituary of Myrna Horsman
It is with saddened hearts the family of Myrna Maureene Horsman announce her passing at her residence at Great Oaks Special Care Home on Monday, October 14th, 2024, at the age of 88. She was born in Halifax, NS on January 29, 1936, a daughter of the late Elmer and Mildred (Cleveland) McKnight.
Myrna grew up in Kars, NB and later relocated to St. Andrews, where she spent much of her life enjoying the fresh sea air. She loved having a good feed of lobster and would be the first to purchase seafood if it was a good deal. She would often talk about the children that she looked after during her time in St. Andrews and what wonderful families she worked for.
Myrna later relocated back to Kings County where she spent many days looking after stray cats and wild animals. There wasn’t a hungry cat, deer, bird, or raccoon in her area, because she would feed them every morning and night. Her Persian cats were the love of her life. Scamper even went to the Home to live with her. She enjoyed making pickles, going for drives, and having ice cream treats or her ice capp from Timmy’s. We had a lot of good laughs over the years, she was always up for some dancing and country music. She was blessed to have the best care at Great Oaks Special Care Home with home-cooked meals, loving caregivers and enjoyed singing with the other patients and waving to everyone driving by. She will be greatly missed.
Myrna is survived by her niece Jacquie Williams (Danny) of Sussex, NB, her nephew Rick McKnight (Stacy) of Stoney Plains, AB, sister-in-law Becky McKnight of Sussex, NB, and several great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. Besides her parents, Myrna was predeceased by her husbands, Frank McCarthy and Hazen Horsman, her brother Melbourne McKnight, and great niece Lacey Jones-McKnight.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, where all services will be held privately. Interment will take place at Tennants Cove Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Myrna may be made to Tennants Cove Cemetery or a charity of the donor’s choice. Condolences to the family and donations may be made through SherwoodsFuneralHome.com.
