Obituary of Ruth Evelyn Colpitts

Ruth Evelyn Colpitts passed away peacefully on October 30, 2024 with her family by her side at the Sussex Health Centre. She was born at her grandmother's home on July 11,1933, the first child of the late Harold and Edith Henderson (Ricketson).

Ruth grew up at "the Point", until meeting and marrying the love of her life, Glen Colpitts. She then moved to Parleeville with him and his parents, where she spent her days raising her family and working on the farm, until they retired from the farm and moved to Norton. Ruth was a hard worker. She worked as hard as any man in the field or the barn and returned to the house to make the meals and help her mother-in-law prepare goods to take each week to the Saint John City Market. She was well known for her home cooking and her love of fun.

Ruth was loved by all that knew her, whether it was a person or animal. Everyone was drawn to her pure heart. On the farm she delivered the lambs and calves, she nursed sick and injured animals back to health, and brought in animals from the field that wouldn't come back to the barn for anyone else. Her caring extended well beyond the farm, lending a hand to anyone that needed it, whether they were family, friend, neighbor, or complete stranger. If you were in need all you had to do was ask. Even the DOT drivers who were plowing the roads were known to stop and fill their thermos with fresh tea and pick up some sandwiches or sweets on their long shifts, because she would never want anyone going hungry.

She cared for everyone that needed help, keeping her mother-in-law and father-in-law at home, caring for her father-in-law's brothers and her grandmother-in-law at times, her nieces and nephews, children from the neighborhood, and her grandchildren. Ruth loved and cared for everyone that crossed her doorstep. Her love knew no bounds.

Ruth had a young spirit, "doing her exercises", enjoying WWE, game shows, and hockey. When she was well enough, she loved to be outside playing with the children and enjoying her flowers and the fresh air. What she enjoyed most of all, was spending time with those she loved and watching her legacy grow.

Ruth is survived by her children: Ralph & Karen Colpitts of Sussex, NB, Bonny & Bryant Tabor of Norton, NB, daughter-in-law Sally Colpitts of Norton, NB; grandchildren: Ben Colpitts (Kiera), Dominick Colpitts (Erin), Darcie Jonah (Mitchell), Denise Colpitts (Christa), Michael Tabor (Brittany), Samantha Fillmore (Adam), and Trevor Tabor (Kira); great-grandchildren: Kenzington, Austin, Blake, Micah, Eli, Luke, Spencer, Sophia, & Elouise; sister-in-law Marie Henderson of Sussex and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Glen Colpitts, son Lee Colpitts and brother Donald Henderson and sister Shirley Tribe.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Center (506-839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 3, from 2:00 to 5:00pm.
