To the Sipkema Family,
I was so very sorry to hear of Mar’s passing. She was truly such a lovely lady. I recall the times spent with her as wonderful and uplifting. When Arie and I would visit there was always some interesting book lying on or near the coffee table in the living room that she would be currently reading. Her reading materials varied but would be oh so interesting! I recall how she would share her thoughts on anything she was reading. How I enjoyed those herbal teas and conversations! I remember how she would tenderly relate stories about her animals; be they horses, cats, chickens or whatever. These stories contained elements of endearment. Mar was such a gentle soul. Her love for nature was amazing and just being in the same room with Mar made one feel a sense of calmness. I loved her needlework that she would do when she wasn’t reading! It seems she was always busy. I offer you, her family, my most sincere condolences . Rest in peace my dear friend. Marie Ruitenberg

Living in the Netherlands, being a younger brother of Sytse Sipkema, uncle of Leo and family, and uncle of Diana I have lively memories of Mar.
I know her from the start of the relationship with my brother.
I asked Mar to marry me in the case Sytse would pass away. I was 7 years old, she was 21, and the girlfriend of my older brother. Obviously I liked her.
I met her often untill the young family emigrated.
After that, I visited the family In NB from time to time, with our sons,
And when our mother grew old, I accompanied her on the visits she payed Sytse, Mar and children.
Years ago Sytse and Mar paid Janneke and me a visit in Bennekom. Was a great delight.....
I considered her a strong woman, fysically and mentally.
Not a woman of many words, a good listener.
On my last visit to Canada, 5 years ago, with my son Jacco, she still was capable to make a long walk with him.
The last years I regularly heard and read by e-mail that her strength faded.
May she rest in peace now.
In loving memory, Janneke van Beek and Gerard Sipkema
