Obituary of Margaretha Sipkema

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Margaretha Sipkema of Midland, NB, announce her passing which occurred on Monday, December 30, 2024. Born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on January 28, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Siem and Rien (Becude) Nederlof.
Margartha had a strong love for family and deeply cared for animals and nature. She was a resilient person, having moved with her husband and three children from the Netherlands in 1979. In Canada, she raised her children and farmed in Midland, NB. She loved the cattle and always enjoyed working with them. Many cats and her horse “Fritz” held a special place in her heart. Margaretha enjoyed yoga and Tai Chi, having spent many years attending classes in both Hampton and Sussex. She enjoyed many years of volunteering at the Sussex Sharing Club. For several years, she also played the piano at the United Church in Belleisle that she attended.
Margaretha is survived and greatly missed by her husband Sytse Sipkema of Midland, NB; son Leo Sipkema (Tanya) of Midland, NB; daughter Diana Sipkema of Colpitts Settlement, NB; grandchildren: Luc (Jenna), Cody (Jenn), Adam (Anna), Geena (Rob), Liam (Sarah) and Levi (Brooke); great grandchildren: Lana, Zeke, Maggie, Ella and Frankie. In addition to her parents, Margaretha was predeceased by her daughter Marina Sipkema.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Center (506-839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, and will be held privately. Donations in memory of Margaretha may be made to Hope and Healing International or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
